The North Carolina Principal Fellows Commission
The North Carolina Principal Fellows Program is administered by the North Carolina Principal Fellows Commission in collaboration with the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (SEAA). Both agencies are affiliated with the University of North Carolina, General Administration (UNC-GA). Selection criteria, the selection process, selection outreach efforts, renewal and continuation criteria and liaison with the educational community are the responsibilities of the North Carolina Principal Fellows Commission. The Commission is staffed and chaired by the Director of the NC Principal Fellows Program. Rules to administer the NCPFP are the responsibility of the Board of Directors for SEAA.
The NC Principal Fellows Commission consists of:
- One member of the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina appointed by the chair of that board
- One member of the State Board of Education appointed by the State Board chair
- One dean of a school of education appointed by the President of The University of North Carolina
- One dean of a school of education appointed by the President of the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities.
- One public school teacher appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the President Pro Tempore of the Senate
- One public school principal appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives
- A local superintendent chosen by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction
- One member to represent business and industry appointed by the Governor
- One local school board member appointed by the chair of the State Board of Education
- One human resources expert from the private sector appointed by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction
- The chairperson of the Board of the State Education Assistance Authority
- The director of the Principal Fellows Program. The director shall chair the Commission
- The Executive Director of the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals' Association or his or her designee.
- The President of the Personnel Administrators of North Carolina or his or her designee.
- The President and Chief Executive Officer of North Carolina Business Leaders for Education (BEST NC) or his or her designee.
2023-24 NCPFP Commission Meetings
The NCPFP Commission will meet on the following dates from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.
- Thursday, October 12, 2023 (Greensboro, NC)
- Thursday, January 18, 2024 (Raleigh, NC)
- Thursday, April 11, 2024 (9:00 - 4:00 in Raleigh, NC)
- Thursday, June 27, 2024 (Boone, NC)
Commission meetings will be conducted remotely with members and staff participating by simultaneous communication, including by conference telephone and video.
